First, we have “Mean Girls,” an adaptation of the 2018 Broadway musical, which is an adaption of the original 2004 film (Couch, 2024). The film, directed by Tina Fey, who was in the original movie, takes a modern approach to the original and stars Renee Rapp, Angourie Rice, and Jon Hamm.
Next, we have the action-packed comedy “Argylle,” directed by Matthew Vaughn and focuses on novelist Ellie Conway, played by Bryce Dallas Howard, who is witnessing events from her spy novels go from fiction to reality. The cast is stacked, with actors such as Dua Lipa, Henry Cavill, John Cena, Samuel L. Jackson, and Ariana Debose making their appearances in the film.
Marvel and Sony make a comeback with “Madame Web,” directed by S.J. Clarkson, which has Dakota Johson lead as a paramedic physic who can see the future. She finds herself connected with three other women, played by Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, and Isabela Merced. Together, they try and survive against a strange antagonist, played by Tahar Rahim.
Warner Bros, Legendary, and director Denis Villeneuve continue the Dune movie saga with a sequel titled, “Dune: Part Two.” The film is said to continue with Paul Atreides, played by Timothée Chalamet, teaming up with the Fremen to avenge his family (Couch, 2024). Zendaya also leads the cast, which is joined by Florence Pugh, Austin Butler, and Christopher Walken.
The Ghostbusters are back with “Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire,” which has Carrie Coon, Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Paul Rudd returning along with some of the original Ghostbusters movie stars Ernie Hudson, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Annie Potts, and William Atherton. The movie is directed by Gil Kenan and has the new and old Ghostbusters teams come together as they try their best to save New York from another ghost crisis.
The MonsterVerse has a new addition to its universe with “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire,” directed by Adam Wingard. The movie has Rebecca Hall, Brian Tyree Henry, and Dan Stevens as the human starts while Godzilla and Kong team up to fight against terrifying titans that have been hiding from the world.
Director George Miller continues the Mad Max: Fury Road saga with a prequel titled “Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.” The prequel focuses on the beginnings of the character Furiosa, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, who is starring in this film alongside Chris Hemsworth, playing Dr Dementus.
There is also “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” directed by Wes Bal, which takes place 300 years after the Planet of the Apes trilogy, released from 2011 to 2017, where the apes have conquered the earth. The movie stars Owen Teague, Freya Allan, Peter Macon, Eka Darville, Kevin Durand, William H. Macy, and Dichen Lachman.
Disney and Pixar come together again for “Inside Out 2,” directed by Kelsey Mann, which focuses on the mind of Riley as a teenager as she deals with new, complicated emotions. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Fear, and Disgust are now accompanied by Anxiety along with other emotions. The cast stars Maya Hawke, Amy Poehler, Phyllis Smith Lewis Black Tony Hale, and Liza Lapira.
All of these movies are just a taste of what is to come in 2024. Moviegoers are certainly excited and ready to watch this lineup of movies along with everything else set to come out this year. So if you love movies, grab your popcorn buckets and get ready to experience what the big screens have in store for us this year.
