Taking the Pictures

Image
With the topic of my magazine being about movies or film, I had the vision and the idea that for pictures, I would be taking them at my local movie theater, where me and my father go from time to time.  So o n one of the occasions that we went to see a movie, I took the opportunity to begin taking pictures of the movie theater at multiple locations and spots that I could think could be relevant in the magazine with my iPhone 12. My father was helping me with the photography as some of the photos were taken on his iPhone 12 Mini, and I feel that those pictures were better quality in comparison to some of the ones I was taking.     The pictures taken were of the movie theater building outside, the front entrance of the theater, posters outside the theater, the ticket booth, the inside of the theater, the inside of one of the auditoriums, a place of guest services, the entrance of an auditorium, and the walkway of an auditorium.  I had...

Establishing The Equipment and Software

With this post, I want to establish and reinforce all the equipment, tools, or software that will be and have been used for this magazine project. For the photography, all of it will be done with an Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini. These two devices are at my convenience and I am familiar with the photo-taking capabilities of both devices, so I am not new to working with these devices or taking pictures with them. A high-quality camera would be a great option for this project but I do not have one, it is too expensive to get, and I already have two devices that serve as great alternatives.     For the digital creative design aspect of this project, it will all be done on the platform Canva, as I have said in my other blogs before. On Canva, I will be creating and managing the layout, the typography, and the colors from my chosen color palette. I will also be importing and editing the pictures that I take with the  Apple iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Mini...

Picking The Title Font

Image
Another important step that was necessary to create the magazine was picking out the fonts. Out of all the different text sections or text boxes, the font for the title of the magazine was by far one of the most important, if not the most important for me to focus on and really the pick one that I both like and feel suits the magazine as the title is one of the first components that grabs the eye when looking at a magazine.     For the title, I already had a vision of how I wanted it to look or at least, a foundation of the essentials for the title font. I felt that the title font should look modern, good while capitalized, and devoid of looking formal, such as cursive fonts or fonts with serifs. As I indicated, one of the focuses with the title font was that it looked good while being capitalized, and this is because I intended on making the title fully capitalized, so the font had to look natural at this aspect as if it was meant to be...

Research and Inspiration: The Cover Page

Image
Although I had not yet taken any pictures, the next step for me was to research and look for magazine cover pages online so I could have a template to work with and base my magazine cover. For the research, I went on Canva, which is the platform I said I would use to create the magazine and went on the platform's search bar and began to look for magazine templates.       Upon entering the search bar, I was hit with a plethora of options and templates to work with. I began to look at the options and found one that I could work with until I could begin to take the pictures and then upload the chosen pictures onto the magazine.       Finally, I would choose the magazine cover above as my inspiration for my magazine cover. I felt like it was a workable template on which I could base my magazine cover while also having the conventions that made it look like a real magazine cover that I could use as inspira...

Finalizing the Color Palette (Part 2)

Image
After much thought, this is the color palette I chose to base my print magazine on along with small additions of white and grey. I chose this palette because I feel it holds the appropriate colors that resonate with the topic of movies and/or movie theaters, while also contributing to making a visually pleasing magazine to look at.       In my mind, I've always thought that the base colors when making something movies or movie theater-related were black and red. This palette has not only one but two shades of red and it includes black. However, although I associate those two colors as the fundamental colors for film or movie theaters, I felt like there needed to be other colors that juxtaposed yet complimented the darkness of red and black. I feel like the magazine would look too bland if its colors were solely just black and red, even if they were different shades of black and red. So I chose this palette with shades of white or beige, as i...

Finding the Color Palette (Part 1)

For one of the first steps, I decided to start looking for the color palette that the magazine will follow or stay consistent too. With my intent being that the magazine will focus or feature film, I am already imagining that the color palette will be one that includes red, dark red, grey, white, and possibly brown.     I have this vision because when I think of movies or film, I think of the movie theater, a place I have gone to and have seen all throughout my life. And to me, the movie theater, along with the topic of film really does encompasses these colors, or at least colors that are similar to the ones listed. The red popcorn bucket, the red or black seats, the black camera, the dark theater room when you're watching a movie.     With this vision, I began to pursue it by going to a color palette website that my Adobe InDesign teacher last year, Mrs. Romero, showed my class, and one me and my peers used often and repeatedly d...
