Preliminary Exercise: Making a Magazine Spread

Overview

Designing a magazine can be very enjoyable yet daunting at times. Like with most things, starting is usually the most difficult part but when you get the hang of it, everything seems to fall into place and starts being easier.

What is a spread in magazine design?

A spread is simply a set of pages (usually two) viewed together. It's how you see the book or magazine when it's open and both pages are showing.

Topic:

  • Select an article that you wrote from your journalism class. (Journalist Class)

I chose an unpublished article I wrote about the “layoffs”/firings happening at Twitter and Amazon.

Format:

  • 8.5 X 11 inch
  • Margin
  • Bleed if necessary
  • 2 pages spread (side by side)
  • Layes

  • Media/news enthusiasts
  • Businesspeople
